10 Fun and Engaging Empowerment Activities for Girls: Summer Edition

for educators for girls empowerment leaders for parents May 13, 2024

Summer is the perfect season for new adventures and personal growth. These 10 fun and engaging activities are designed to empower young girls, helping them to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and celebrate their individuality in a supportive community setting.

1. Vision Board Party

Host a vision board party to help girls visualize their summer goals and dreams. Supply colorful magazines, poster boards, and craft supplies. Encourage them to create a visual representation of what they hope to achieve or experience during the summer, promoting a future-focused mindset.

2. Empowerment Circle

Gather in a beautiful outdoor setting for an empowerment circle where each girl shares her personal strengths and summer aspirations. This fosters a sense of belonging and mutual support, enhancing each girl's confidence in her unique abilities.

3. The Compliment Jar

Continue with the compliment jar activity, but make it a regular feature of weekly summer meet-ups. Each session, girls can add new compliments based on recent observations, helping to reinforce positive relationships and self-image throughout the summer.

4. Role Model Presentations

Encourage girls to choose and present a summer-specific role model—such as an athlete from the Summer Olympics, a scientist doing seasonal fieldwork, or an artist inspired by summer’s vibrancy. This activity connects their interests to inspiring figures who embody summertime success and dedication.

5. Affirmation Art on Beach Stones

Take the affirmation art activity outdoors by using beach stones as the canvas. Have each girl paint positive affirmations on smoothly surfaced stones they find. These can be used to decorate their gardens at home or as thoughtful gifts for friends and family.

6. Confidence-Boosting Charades

Adapt charades to a sunny park setting, acting out summer-themed empowering scenarios like leading a camping trip, winning a summer sports league, or successfully building a sandcastle. This lively game encourages expressive and confident behaviors in a playful environment.

7. Community Service Projects

Plan a community service project that takes advantage of the warm weather. Organize a beach clean-up, a beautification day at a local community garden, or a charity walk/run. These activities enhance the community while giving the girls a sense of accomplishment and agency.

8. Personal Growth Journals with a Twist

Add a summer twist to personal growth journals by including photography or nature sketches. Encourage the girls to document their summer experiences and reflections through both written and visual entries, deepening their engagement with their surroundings and internal world.

9. Empowerment Movie Night Under the Stars

Host an outdoor movie night featuring films with strong female leads. Choose a cozy park or backyard setting, lay out blankets and pillows, and project movies that celebrate girl power. Discuss the movies afterward to explore their themes and inspire the girls to think about how they can apply their lessons in their own lives.

10. The Gratitude Circle with a Summer Spin

Conclude your summer sessions with a gratitude circle around a campfire. Have each girl share something she’s grateful for from the summer, focusing on experiences, growth, and friendships. This reinforces a positive outlook and encourages reflection on all they’ve accomplished.

Bonus Activity: Girl World 101 Workshop

Cap off the summer by hosting a special "Girl World 101" workshop to review everything learned over the season. Use our free workshop kit to facilitate discussions, games, and planning sessions for how the girls can continue applying their new skills and confidence into the school year.
