Self Love Activities for Kids: 15 Fun Ways to Practice Kindness to Yourself

for educators for girls empowerment leaders for parents Apr 25, 2025

Because the earlier we teach self love, the stronger girls grow.

Self love isn’t selfish—it’s foundational. And for girls to grow up confident, resilient, and kind to others, they first need to learn how to be kind to themselves.

Here’s the good news: self love can absolutely be taught (and made fun!). With playful activities, simple rituals, and lots of encouragement, you can help girls practice treating themselves with the same compassion they show their best friends. It starts with how they talk to themselves, how they care for their minds and bodies, and how they see their own worth.

These 15 activities are designed with younger girls in mind, but many can be adapted for tweens and teens too. Whether you’re a teacher, group leader, or parent, you’ll love how easy—and heartwarming—they are to implement.

đź’ˇ Key Takeaways

  • Self love is a skill girls can learn early through everyday habits and activities

  • Small actions—like affirmations and creativity—build emotional resilience over time

  • Encouraging girls to treat themselves with kindness nurtures lifelong confidence

  • These activities are perfect for classrooms, family time, or girl group sessions

1. Mirror Affirmation Moments

Have girls look in a mirror each morning and say something kind to themselves. Start with: “I am kind. I am strong. I am enough.”

2. Design a “Love Me” Bookmark

Using markers, stickers, or collage art, decorate a bookmark with self love reminders and affirmations. Bonus: tuck it into a favorite book or journal!

3. Compliment Yourself Coloring Pages

Create or print coloring sheets that say things like “I am amazing!” or “I love who I am!” Girls color them in and hang them up as confidence boosters.

4. Self Love Snack Time

During snack or lunch, do a quick gratitude check-in: “What’s one thing you’re proud of today?” or “What’s something awesome about you?”

5. “I Am” Paper Chain

Each link includes one positive statement: I am brave. I am helpful. I am curious. The longer the chain, the more reminders of their amazingness!

6. Create a Self Love Jar

Girls write notes to themselves on slips of paper: “You are strong,” “You tried your best today,” “You made someone smile.” Pull one out whenever a boost is needed.

7. Make an Inner Kindness Pledge

Together, create a group or classroom “kindness to self” pledge. Read it aloud regularly to reinforce the habit of self compassion.

8. Draw Your Heart Map

Draw a big heart and fill it with people, places, activities, and values that help them feel loved and happy. This activity reminds girls that they are surrounded by support—and love starts within.

9. Build a “Self Love Toolbox”

Include tools like:

  • Affirmation cards

  • A journal

  • Fidget or sensory items

  • A calming playlist

  • A favorite quote
Let girls decorate and personalize their box!

10. “Dear Me” Letters

Have girls write a sweet, encouraging letter to themselves. Seal it in an envelope and save it for a day they need extra love.

11. Create a “Superpower Shield”

Decorate a paper shield with each girl’s strengths, qualities, and values. Let them wear it proudly or hang it up as a reminder.

12. Self Love Storytime

Read books together that center on themes of self worth and inner strength. Pause to reflect: “What does this character love about herself?”

13. Make a Confidence Crown

Craft paper crowns and write words around the band that describe their inner beauty—like “creative,” “kind,” “fearless,” and “honest.”

14. Create a Self Love Dance Break

Choose a favorite upbeat song and have a dance party! Movement and joy are acts of self love too.

15. Start a “Kind To Me” Chart

Each day, girls check off when they’ve done something kind for themselves—whether that’s drinking water, saying a kind word, or taking a breath when they’re upset.
